Diversifying the offering of a family run wildlife park

Project overview

Client: Simply Native Ltd
Location: Forest of Bowland
Sector: Commercial and industrial
Project status: In progress

PWA Planning has supported Bowland Wild Boar Park, a popular wildlife park located in the Forest of Bowland, with plans to diversify into outdoor wedding events, supporting its future sustainability and community offer.

What we did

Already a cherished local attraction for families and school groups, the park features an array of animal enclosures and play areas nestled within scenic countryside.

The proposal focused on allowing the park to utilise its tranquil woodland area as a picturesque setting for outdoor weddings.

The plans allow up to 20 events per year, carefully managed to complement the park’s existing use and to protect the site’s rural character.

Given the site’s countryside location and the need to maintain its core function as a wildlife attraction, the application required a sensitive and well-justified planning approach.

We worked closely with the client to develop a strategy that reflected the low-impact nature of the proposals while demonstrating the economic and operational benefits of the added use.

The planning submission was supported by detailed site plans, a management statement, and a clear framework for how the events would be integrated into the wider park operations without affecting animal welfare or the visitor experience.

Our team worked proactively with the local planning authority to address queries around access, noise, and land use policy.

The proposal is a modest, well-controlled diversification that aligns with national planning guidance for supporting rural enterprises and visitor attractions.
