Working with our client Austringer Capital and the wider project team we successfully secured outline consent for a major expansion of a recently developed retail park.

What we did

Fulwood Central opened as a retail and leisure destination in the Fulwood area of the city in 2019.

PWA was brought on board to help our client secure planning consent for a second phase of development at the site.

Phase two would feature a new family entertainment centre, gymnasium, retail units and new food and beverage units. The 232,000 sq ft space would also include a co-working space, industrial and office units and a three-storey container park.

PWA was responsible for the full management of the planning submission through to determination, including management and co-ordination of external consultants. A planning consent was secured for the major development, including matters of access, appearance, layout and scale.

Working with our team of consultants we were able to address some the main concerns of the local planning authority. These concerns included how the introduction of new retail and commercial uses in an out of centre location might impact town centre trade.

Concerns raised by the county council’s highways department and Highways England about potential highways impacts were also allayed as part of the planning process.
