Securing new adaptable homes for older people

Project overview

Client: Applethwaite Homes
Location: Much Hoole, Preston
Sector: Housing
Project status: Planning approved / Complete

Working with Applethwaite Homes, part of Eric Wright Group, we secured planning consent for a high-quality development of adaptable bungalows aimed at the over 55s.

What we did

This project saw us working closely with the client and the wider development team of architects and technical consultants on a planning application for a development of ‘true’ bungalows in an established residential area in the borough of South Ribble.

The application was for two and three-bedroom adaptable bungalows for over-55s bungalows, which meet Part M4(2) of Building Regulations.

The application received a high volume of objections from members of the public, which covered many grounds, including noise and traffic concerns.

We were able to satisfy these concerns and guide the scheme towards approval at the planning committee.

We also drew upon our knowledge of planning policies to demonstrate why the specialist nature of the accommodation meant that development was exempt from making contributions towards affordable housing and education, which ultimately made the development viable.

What our client said

“I have engaged with PWA Planning for a number of years on residential development sites. Their knowledge of the planning system, which doesn’t come without its issues and challenges, is exemplary and they have an excellent track record of securing planning consents on our sites. I would recommend PWA without hesitation.”
