Apartment scheme to breathe fresh life into former dental practice

Plans to transform a disused Wirral dental surgery into five state-of-the-art apartments have been given the green light after PWA Planning advised on the scheme.

Wirral Borough Council has granted planning permission for the conversion project at Warren Drive, New Brighton, near Wallasey.

The plans for the building include external alterations, a rear single-storey extension and balcony to create the five self-contained homes, which will have access to off-street parking.

PWA Planning advised on a change of use application for the development and was able to show that the proposed change would not have an adverse impact on the surrounding homes.

Victoria Lawson, planner at PWA Planning, said: “Warren Drive is a long-established residential area with a history dating back to the late 1800s and is known for its large detached villas.

“Our client saw the opportunity to convert this beautiful period building into five luxury detached apartments. Being in a highly sustainable location close to transport links, and already surrounded by residential homes, we were able to show that this project would not have any negative impact and would in fact allow a disused property to be brought back to life.”

The scheme was designed by Warrington-based Cube Property Services, a multi-disciplinary property, project management, design, cost and surveying consultancy.

The project will contribute to the character and quality of the area by enhancing the property’s gable-front façade, which has become worn and displays signs of neglect. The proposed improvements to the frontage seek to retain as many original features as possible.

New patio doors will enable access to rear, private garden space for the two ground floor flats. Meanwhile, a communal garden space will be created for the three flats on the first and second floors.
