Solar farm planning approval secured for Harmony Energy

PWA has assisted Harmony Energy in securing planning permission for a 60-hectare solar farm in East Yorkshire.

The planning consent will enable Harmony Energy to create a ground-mounted solar PV development with a capacity to generate up to 30MW of low carbon electricity on land south of the town of Driffield in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

It is the latest in a succession of projects PWA has worked on with Harmony Energy which specialises in developing and operating solar and utility-scale battery energy storage projects.

Louise Leyland, associate at PWA Planning, said: “We’re proud to be working alongside companies like Harmony Energy who are at the forefront of renewable energy generation in the UK.

“This development will have almost 100,000 solar photovoltaic panels, allowing the site to generate enough energy to power the equivalent of up to 8,000 homes each year. We’re delighted to have gained planning consent for the project.”

The development has an estimated lifespan of 40 years after which the equipment would be removed and the site returned to its original state as agricultural land. The project includes measures to protect and enhance biodiversity on the site.

Harmony Energy has over 500MW of battery energy storage plants construction-ready in the UK, with another 200MW of solar assets in planning.
