The PWA Planning team has supported one of the North West’s largest nature reserves to protect and enhance wildlife habitats by coming together for a volunteering and teambuilding day.
Our team gathered at Brockholes Nature Reserve, a 250-acre site managed by The Lancashire Wildlife Trust, to spend the day helping with a range of conservation tasks.
These included tree and reed-bed maintenance, making boundary fences, repairing paths, chopping firewood, and dredging the lake to remove invasive species and protect key habitats.
Paul Walton, director at PWA Planning, said “It’s important for us as a company to give back to our communities and also support the wellbeing of our team.
“Our time at Brockholes helped us achieve both these goals and provided us with an experience we are not likely to forget. Inevitably we had to deal with some rain, but it wasn’t enough to dampen our spirits. A huge thanks to the Brockholes team for having us and we hope to be back again soon.”
Brockholes Nature Reserve was once an active quarry site, supplying much of the materials to build large sections of the M6 motorway.
Since 2007, The Lancashire Wildlife Trust has been working to create a mosaic of habitats at Brockholes, working with the landscape left behind from the quarrying.
It has become a key site for wildlife in the region, providing a mix of habitats, from wetlands to woodlands.
The are many ways to support Brockholes. For more information about donating, volunteering and other opportunities visit the ‘Support Us’ page on the Brockholes website.
