PWA secures trio of approvals for Amber Taverns

PWA Planning has helped fast-growing pub company Amber Taverns gain planning permission for three newly acquired sites across the country.

Amber Taverns specialises in reviving old buildings and turning them into thriving public houses across the UK.

PWA Planning has helped it secure a change of use and planning permission for external alterations for the Old Post Office in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. The venue aptly named The Old Post Office, opened in December 2019.

PWA has also obtained planning and listed building consents for alterations to The Duke public house in Bridgwater, Somerset, which becomes Amber Tavern’s most southerly pub.

The project will create a more attractive building frontage and customer-friendly layout, as well as an external drinking area and of particular interest to the local population was the creation of a new nine pin skittle alley in the former function room.

In addition, PWA has also secured planning and listed building consents for the conversion of an outbuilding into a new gin bar and beer garden extension at Hogarths, Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

Paul Walton, director of PWA Planning, said: “It’s hugely rewarding to be working with a company that’s saving underperforming public houses from closure, as well as revitalising important heritage buildings to create new pubs and jobs.

“Our work is helping Amber Taverns to achieve its growth plans while protecting valuable community assets for enjoyment by the public.”

Sam Frankland, Property Director at Amber Taverns, added: “The pub market is constantly changing and we’re seeing strong demand for community locals in busy town centres. We have a strong focus on reviving interesting buildings, converting retail units to pubs and investing often much needed capital into high streets to benefit local communities across the country.”

The Blackpool headquartered company has over 150 pubs across England, Wales and now in Scotland.
