PWA advises Anchor Hanover Group on new East London affordable homes

PWA Planning has been appointed by housing provider Anchor Hanover Group to progress plans to create new affordable housing for the over 55s at one of its sites in East London.

The plans would see two new low-rise apartment blocks, comprising 21 new apartments, created on unused amenity land off Park Lane and Cavendish Avenue in Hornchurch.

The development will add to 54 apartments already on the site and the application also includes plans to extend four of these existing retirement properties to create additional one and two-bedroom apartments.

PWA has now submitted a planning application for the new homes which would be made available for affordable rent for the over 55s, allowing Anchor Hanover Group to meet increased demand in the area.

Dan Hughes, associate at PWA Planning, said: “The site at Cavendish Lane is already a popular location for retirement homes for older people. This new development will bring underused amenity land into play to create much-needed additional housing that will also benefit from high-quality communal spaces.

“The proposals also include landscaping and tree planting that will have significant benefits by promoting greenness and biodiversity, as well as improving for the local street scene.”

Nick Hodgskin, assistant director of housing and support for Anchor Hanover, said: “PWA have been an invaluable asset throughout the project and a key member of the team. We look forward to working with them again in the future to provide much needed affordable older persons’ accommodation.”

Anchor Hanover is England’s largest provider of specialist housing and care for people on later life. It owns over 55,000 homes in 1,700 locations across England.
