PWA has submitted plans for a transformative new retirement scheme in Hackney, London.
Benabo Court will provide 72 high-quality, affordable homes exclusively for over-55s, replacing the existing 31-unit retirement scheme that has become outdated and is no longer fit for purpose.
The plans, submitted on behalf of Anchor, represent a significant step forward in addressing demand for affordable housing for older residents in the area.
The new development will cater to independent living while offering its residents a welcoming and supportive environment.
Anchor is committed to delivering a net-zero carbon project, aligning with Hackney Council’s focus on reducing traffic and improving air quality.
Louise Leyland, associate at PWA Planning, said: “We’re happy to have played a part in seeking approval for this much-needed scheme in Hackney.
“This project is all about meeting the growing need for affordable, high-quality housing for older people, while also putting sustainability and community wellbeing at the heart of it. As well as providing new homes, it will have a lasting, positive impact on the local area.”
Anchor is England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for later life, supporting over 60,000 residents across 1,700 locations. With a significant waiting list in the borough, Anchor prioritises redeveloping existing sites to meet demand sustainably while leveraging established staffing and services.
