Plans approved for new hotel at Frontier Park

Plans for a 150-bedroom hotel with conferencing and banqueting facilities off the M65 in Blackburn have been approved.

PWA Planning has advised Monte Blackburn Ltd on its successful application for the latest phase of development at the 90-acre Frontier Park site on the Hyndburn and Blackburn border.

Monte Blackburn Ltd is the private development company of Zuber and Moshin Issa, the founding owners and co-CEOs of EG Group.

The redevelopment of Frontier Park is already well underway with base infrastructure, utilities, a new estate road, land remodelling, and a petrol forecourt and retail operation with drive-through restaurants, all scheduled for completion this summer.

A mix of industrial and commercial buildings also make up the development and could bring around 2,000 new jobs to the area.

With around one million sq ft of new warehouse and industrial space being created, it will be the area’s largest employment and commercial development for decades. The first unit, a 185,000 sq ft speculative warehouse, is also under construction and due to be completed before the end of the year.

Emily Robinson, senior planner at PWA Planning, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Monte / EG Group to get this next phase of development moving at Frontier Park.

“The hotel and conferencing centre, and the associated landscaping works, will be a stand-out feature of this prominent gateway site. It will bring a conferencing facility of regional significance to the county.”

Frontier Park, formerly known as the Whitebirk employment area, has been a strategic site for more than 15 years. Monte Blackburn Ltd acquired the site in 2016 and immediately embarked on reworking a new masterplan to make the site economically viable.

Barnfield Construction is the main contractor on the development which has been designed by Campbell Driver Partnership. GVA and Trevor Dawson are property agents for the development.
