Planning consent granted for Lancaster homes

PWA Planning has helped specialist housing developer Mulbury secure planning permission for 30 new homes in the village of Caton, near Lancaster.

The homes will regenerate the former SJ Bargh haulage site, which has been vacant for a number of years, with new two, three and four-bedroom homes.

Nine of the homes on the three-acre site are to be made available for shared ownership and affordable rent.

Emily Robinson, of PWA Planning, said: “Given its edge of village location and position within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this development required a careful planning strategy. Working closely with the client and local planning authority, we demonstrated how through careful siting and design, the development will protect and enhance, rather than detract, from its sensitive, rural location.”

David Wroe, head of Mulbury Living, said: “We’ve designed a scheme that is sensitive to this rural village location and its picturesque surroundings. This scheme will improve the area significantly by regenerating a vacant former industrial site, providing much-needed family homes.”

The new homes will be arranged around two separate cul-de-sac access roads, while the development will also benefit from significant amenity space and access to the nearby River Lune cycleway.

The proposed houses have natural stone and white render elevations and slate roofs, with the majority of homes benefiting from detached or integral garages. All the homes enjoy front and rear gardens and off road parking.

The site has been vacant since 2013 when haulage company SJ Bargh Ltd relocated operations to a new site in Caton Road, Lancaster. Construction works are expected to start on May 2017.
