A derelict pub in the Lancashire village of Weir is set to make way for six new homes after the proposed development was granted planning permission.
The Weir Hotel, in Burnley Road, has been closed for several years and has become an eyesore due to its boarded-up windows.
PWA Planning has worked with applicant Lancaster Homes (NW) Ltd to help bring forward a suitable development for the brownfield site which includes the pub and its adjacent car park.
The three detached homes and three townhouses will be built in natural stone and slate to fit with the character of the local area. The detached homes will have four bedrooms and the townhouses three bedrooms.
The scheme was granted planning permission by Rossendale Council on February 28.
Emily Robinson, senior planner at PWA Planning, said: “Unfortunately, there was little prospect of the pub reopening and the site had been on the market since 2013.
“We were brought on board to help the applicant devise a scheme of new homes that was suitable in terms scale and appearance.
“The development will give the local street scene a lift and offer much-needed new homes for the area.”
According to the Bacup Times website, the Weir Hotel pub was built in 1868 for licensee Mr Walker for a fee of £700.00.
